Read

James 1:27

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Reflect

A lot of time religion and church can be pretty showy. We put on a face and act the way that we think we’re supposed to act, but it doesn’t necessarily change our hearts. James is telling his audience that true religion is to look after orphans and widows - those who don’t have anyone else looking out for them. God cares for those who have no one looking out for them. If we’re really following Jesus, then our faith will shine through our actions.

Pray

God, let us be the caretakers of those who have no one to care for them.
