Lent is a season of repentance. Yet, the only way to repent is to look at our lives and admit that we have a problem. Christ has called us out of darkness and into the light, yet there are always pieces of our soul that prefer to hide in the shadows. The world around us complicates this by calling the darkness light and the light darkness. Ephesians tells us that we have been given light from the Lord and that His light within us “produces only what is good and right and true.” Do you see the product of light in your life? Or of darkness?
The only way to get rid of darkness in our lives and around us is by exposing it to the light. Darkness cannot stand up to the light, but is totally obliterated by it. Sin thrives in darkness, but is destroyed by the light. As hard as it sounds, bringing our sin out of the darkness before Jesus is the best thing that we can do. We do this best through confession of sin to a trusted pastor, or brother/sister in Christ. What you will find is not shame and rejection, but loving embrace. What is hiding in the dark alleyways of your heart?
