FRIDAY - Hebrews 3:1-14

Lent is a season meant for reflection. A time that we set aside in order to mourn our sin, and see our deep need for a savior. Hebrews 3:12 seems to fit this desire perfectly: “Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.” During this time, we are to reflect on the status of our own hearts. Have we turned away from the living God based upon the priorities we have set for our lives? Does our heart believe the things that our mouths confess to be true about God and His love for us? It is during this season that we ask these questions of ourselves.

The very next verse, verse 13, encourages us to warn each other every day. In other words, to hold each other accountable in our pursuit of God. We cannot live this Christian life alone and we need community. We were made to do life alongside others, and the same is true when we think about Lent and wrestling with our own humanity. We should seek out relationships that can hold us accountable to the things that we are starving for. We should have people that we trust and love and care for us the same to be able to speak truths into our lives when we need it the most. Do you have that type of friend? Maybe it is a spouse or a relative? Who can you reach out to who can hol you accountable during this season of lent?
